shutdown issues

I have an Alienware laptop 15, Windows 8.1 (64 bits . I bought this laptop April 21, 2015. Order . I really feel really happy with the performance of this super laptop and also I was expecting a super performance due to the high price of the laptop. This computer should be under warranty and I really expect some help or at least a technical support in my house to solve this problems.

My computer refuses to shut down through the normal windows process. Every time that I click shutdown, the computer starts to shut down and after finish the shutdown process the laptop start up automatically.

I install and Vmware virtual machine in my laptop and I cannot adjust the screen resolution. The fonts are too small and it is impossible for me to work in my other windows. Also the screen resolution of my base windows 8.1 it is not really good. I tried all the possible combination for fix the screen resolution but wasn’t success. My actual resolution in the windows 8.1 (widows base) is 3840 X 2160 @60Hz

These are my Alienware 15 (Early 2015) specs:
Intel core i7 4710HQ @ 2.5 ghz
16GB ram
Geforce GTX 980M
windows 8.1 64 bit

Thanks again and please help.

    Hello,

Try to reinstall the video card drivers first. Both the Intel and the Nvidia drivers. Also, flash the latest Bios version on the system if you haven't already done so. You can obtain the drivers and the Bios from the Drivers and Downloads section of the Dell site. Click here for the link. Let us know how it goes.

Microsoft introduced a new feature named Hybrid Shutdown in Windows 8. This feature is by default enabled, and decreases the computer’s shutdown and booting time. The computer’s shut down time is decreased because when shutdown command is initiated, the kernel session is hibernated instead of closing completely. When a computer is powered on, the kernel session is resumed from the hibernation, hence speeding up the booting time as well

How to Disable Hybrid Shutdown in Windows 8?
To disable Hybrid Shutdown in Windows 8 to resolve the shutdown issue, steps below must be followed using an administrator account:

    1. Log on to Windows 8 computer with the administrator account on which Hybrid shutdown is to be disabled.
    2. Click Desktop tile from the Start screen to go to the desktop screen.
    3. Once on the desktop screen, hover mouse to the bottom right corner of the window.
    4. From the displayed options, click Settings.
    5. On the Settings pane, click Control Panel.
    6. On the opened Control Panel window, click System and Security.
    7. On the System and Security window, click Power Options from the right pane.
    8. On the Power Options window, click Choose what the power buttons do option from the left pane.
    9. On the System Settings window, click Change settings that are currently unavailable link to enable the advanced options.
    10. From the enabled options under Shutdown settings section, uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) checkbox to disable Hybrid Shutdown.
    11. Click Save changes button to save the modified settings.
    12. Close Power Options window when done.

    Hello,

We recommend you try an Alien Respawn. This will set your system to factory settings so make sure to back up your data before trying this. We do believe this problem could be software related, by doing an Alien Respawn system recovery you will most likely fix this problem. Click here to view an article that explains how to do the Alien Respawn factory recovery.
