C:\WINDOWS\System32 screen on start up
I have a new Dimension 8400 with Windows XP Professional. When I fire it up the opening screen is the C:\WINDOWS\System32 on warning me about folders I musn't tinker with. When I called tech help they said Run MSCONFIG and in Startup uncheck the /L:EN entry. That solves the problem but it causes Windows to run a selective start up and not the standard one, and some drivers don't load.
I tracked down one reference to this on the net suggesting that it is an attribute of Audigy cards found on Dell mchines. Does anyone know if that is true and, more importantly, how to fix it please?

Many thanks. Majestic. I'm away from my computer for a day or two, but I'll check it out when I can. Looks as if it could be something that Dell could have fixed before delivery ...

jgdc, my fault. I think it was my internet security interfering with my 'reply page' loading correctly.
What I was trying to say was that I had exactly this probably yesterday and found a a patch in the dell downloads under 'audio' which specifically deals with this issue. It is 'R75304.exe' and the blurb starts 'this webpatch is designed to resolve the Audigy 2 'welcome menu' issue. Once installed, what the patch does is to lead to the SB Audigy 'welcome' graphic being displayed on start up instead of system32 folder. You can then check an option for this not to be shown again...and this seems to have sorted it out, for me at least..

Got it this time! Makes you wonder why Dell can't fix it at source before releasing the machine ...422

The Audigy patch described below seemed to be the easier way to go, Majestic, so I tried that one instead.
