freezing
I get the blue screen showing fatal exception OE 017F: BFF9DFFF. How do I fix this? I have a dimension xps T700R with Windows 98 as the operating system. Is this a software problem or a hardware problem? Sometimes I can't even run a single program, other times I won't have a problem; but it is getting worse and more frequent! Please help. Thank You

Steve, thanks for helping. I didn't know I had that many programs running at one time. I had three that did not respond. Is there a way to set up the programs so they will not run after I reboot the computer? Thanks again for your help!

You can keep unwanted programs from running at startup by use of the System Configuration Utility.
Go to Start/Run and type "Msconfig" without the quotation marks. OK the entry and you will be within the System Configuration Utility.
Ensure you have "Selective Startup" enabled.
Ensure you have check marks in
Process System.ini file
Process Win.ini file
Load Startup group items
Click on the Startup Tab. You can uncheck just about anything except System Tray, Scan Registry and Anti Virus software you want loading at startup.
Refer to Denny's Resource Management for information on programs you can and should not disable at startup.
Remember to Apply and OK any changes when using Msconfig. You will have to reboot for changes to take.

You might have a program running in the background that is causing the problem. Try to do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and End Task on all programs except Systray and Explorer. You might also see if one of those programs is not responding. Run it this way for awhile (including w/o Anti-Virus programs but don't go on the internet) and see what happens.
All the programs you disable will be enabled when you reboot.
