Hardware Failure?

Hello All

I have a Dimension L1000R, and in all my years of dealing with PC's, and Servers I've never seen this problem..... No POST (Of course), but on power-up it makes a sort of clicking noise, and the HDD indicator light flashes insynch w/ the noise. I'm thinking power supply, but I've never seen one do this sort of thing; Usually, they just don't power up. Am I way off target? Is this a DELL specific thing?

    Colomusicman,

Rather than not posting, your problem sounds more like the system is not booting.  The clicking noise and the synchronous hard drive light point to a failed hard drive.  Disconnect the hard drive data and power cable and try to boot to a DOS disk.  You can download CDENAB.EXE from this link:

    http://support.dell.com/filelib/Format.aspx?ReleaseID=R19775

and make a boot disk if you do not have one.  If the system boots up to a DOS prompt, then you can pretty much plan on replacing the hard drive.
