Mouse not working error code 8

I have been given a Dimension 8100 with Windows ME. The machine boots up except there is no mouse.  When I go to the the control panel and  open System-Device Manager the mouse is recognized but the properties for the PS-2 compatible mouse gves an error code 8, vmouse.vxd not found. The driver is located in the Windows\system\vmm32 directory.
I do not have either the Windows ME installation CD or the Resource CD to fix the machine.
Where can I get them. I have been searching the Support site with no success.

You can get that driver at this URL:

Free site registration is required for the download

This will work with All Versions of Windows ... It should

be installed into the C:\Windows\System\vmm32 directory

You may also want to try this:

It is not your mouse file you have a corrupt ini file
go to start menu /run and type system.ini and you
will get a notepad pop up the first couple of lines will be rubbish
delete these lines save the file and restart your machine

    BRUCEBUBELLO,

Thank you I'll that site. I got one from Driverguide.com. That one didn't seem to work. So maybe the system.ini file is corrupt
