Need Help! Computer will not boot up!

Ok I will start from the beginning for I know when it comes to troubleshooting the more details the better!

My Dell Dimension 5150 starting acting up about 3 weeks ago.  One day it will start up then another day no power.  The amber light would flash once or twice.  You could leave it for an hour then come back and it is fine.

Well this was a pain but liveable.....3 days ago it finally would NOT come again anymore.  We thought it might be the power supply but it still had the amber light which would flash once or twice after hitting the power button.  We opened the case and reseated all cables and memory.  We tested the Power Supply and there was power.  Plugged every back and nothing!!!  GRRRRR!

Then I read on some forums about removing the battery and putting it back in....Well I did this and yeah POWER, fan clicks on but now the amber light stays solid...that cannot be good!  And there is no post no boot up.

Does it mean I might need a new battery?  Is it the Motherboard?  I am quite upset for I have lots of stuff on this computer and need it ASAP.  If anyone can help it would be great!

Yeah, replace the battery for starters. Then, tell us what the 4 diagnostic lights on the front panel are doing, if anything?
