Power Management

I have set my monitor to shut down after 3 min., the drive to shut down after 5 min., using the power mgt. in the control panel.
Everything works right at times, then, for no reason that I can see, the monitor and drive do not shut down no matter how long the computer is idle.
I can go back into the pwr. mgt and reset the times and all is well for 3 or 5 cycles, then neither shuts down on schedule and will continue running until I shut the computer down or go back into the pwr. mgt. and reset the config.
I had the same settings on Win 98se and never had a problem. Upgraded to XP (clean install) and all was well for awhile.
Anybody else have this problem?, if so, is there a fix?

Nah, have not used a screen saver in a long time. The monitor and drive will shut down as sceduled 4 or 5 times, then hang up and not shut down for hours. Guess it is just another glitch to live with.
Been looking and thinking about building my own. Do you mind giving me a reasonable guess on what the rig you built cost? It looks a lot like what I would like to build but I'm wondering, aside from the satisfaction of building your own, if there is really is any benefit over buying a package deal.

Sometimes your screen saver is the culprit.
