Processor Fan, Need new

Desktop Dell Dimension 4550, Pentium 4 processor at 2.66GHZ, Computer is 5 years old.

I have had a clicking noise for months when I start up my computer.  I finally bought a can of air and cleaned it out good.

After researching some of the forums, specifically the one on "8300 fan noise, with a post from j-man44, registered on 4/23/04"  I opened my computer and cleaned out the dust, to start.  I have determined I need a new Processor (CPU) fan.  I checked with Dell online, but I didn't see where I could order just the fan.  It appears that I have to order a motherboard and I don't think I really need that.  Does anyone know if Dell sells just the fans or should I look to another comany like Newegg or Radio Shack?  Thanks.

Dell's motherboard fan connection and fan speed circuitry is proprietary.  By installing a non-Dell fan you will be constantly warned at every computer boot that your fan is not operating and will have to elect to ignore the message until next boot.  This can get monotonous.

To avoid this annoyance, you should purchase a Dell fan.

Thank you for the response.  However, I would be willing to buy a dell fan, I just didn't want to have to buy the motherboard too.  Do you know if you can purchase just the dell fan?

Yes you can purchase just the fan.  Call the spare parts number I have listed above and tell them you need a CPU fan for your system.
