Replacing RAM causing beeping?
I've been trying to run Microsoft's Memory diagnostic to determine which if both of my memory modules is bad and when I replaced them, it began beeping and will not start up. I'm using a Dell Dimension 8400 series running media center (if you need specific hardware specs or any other info, just ask). The beep code isn't recognizable, so not sure what to do to remedy this. I've tried each single module seperately but no dice. I'm very much a hardware noob(and the only reason I was running the diagnostic was because of stop errors) so any help and lots of patience would be appreciated! I'm definately on my last nerve with this whole mess ^^;
Thanks in advance!
edit:
Perhaps I should clarify, there was no new ram being put in, I simply took the originals out and tested them one by one but upon putting them back into my machine after testing, I've been getting beeping.

Sorry for the confusion, I posted that late last night, wasn't clear ^^; I'll edit my original post.

Try testing the memory in pairs in the white memory slots.

Memory is static sensitive and if you were not properly grounded and you didn't handle the memory correctly (only by the edges) you could have damaged the memory.

If the beeping started after you replaced the memory, it sounds like incompatible memory was installed.
If you reinstall the original memory does it still beep?
Here is the memory info from the Dell manual:
Memory
Type
400- and 533-MHz DDR2 unbuffered SDRAM
Memory connectors
four
Memory capacities
128-, 256-, 512-, or 1-GB non-ECC
Maximum memory
4 GB
Dell's have a history of being tempermental with some brands of memory. Some will work and some will not and there is no definate pattern except Kingston Value RAM seems to have a lot of problems and should be avoided. For non-Dell memory, Crucial is a good source since it is guaranteed to work in Dell's. www.crucial.com
