so you are saying you can't go in the preferences of your computer and disable the system restore? Strange. Any way symantec and norton are (sorry to have say this) commercial and lots of virusses are protected against the norton and symantec scans. i don't want to make an advertissement here but i use the free version of avast anti virus (www.avast.com) and he detect immediatelly every virus on entry and gives me the choice of removing it. Even if the virus is hard to delete avast gives the option to delete the virus with the next reboot of you pc. I would try avast anti virus.

Thanks for the tip on the ant-virus software you're using. I'll check it out. In the meantime, I still need to find out about the system restore.

perhaps if you get the virus out of your pc, you will be able to get the system restore back. system restore is located: right mouse button on my computer(in start menu) - preferences - system restore. i'd say shut it down because system restore doesn't do much except when your pc reboots at random time.

Go to Start|Control Panel|System|System Restore tab. Check "Turn off system restore on all drives." Reboot.
