Universal Serial Bus Controller
Hi and HELP!!
I reinstalled WindowsXP pro and in hardware devices I have a conflict, under "others" I have two serial bus controller's listed.
I used the resource CD to try and upgrade drivers, and tried to find out exactly what they are with no luck...
There is a USB controller section at the bottom with numerouse entries, anyone have an idea as to how to fix this?
Things seem to be running ok so far except for a couple of problems I'll take to the windows forum.
BTW, would this have something to do with my not being able to press shift and go into hibernate?

I was avoiding SP1, didn't think I needed it but I'll give that a try.
There are no drivers on my resource CD for them, I did install the chipset drivers but not first as suggested, I forgot!
Things seem to be runing well, my pc was running like a 286 I think because I installed Sun Java which doesn't go well with Virtual Machine, so I heard.
I couldn't get around the reinstall :).

I just bought 3 Dimension 4550s and did new XP Pro installations and had the same problem.
There's a dell article which discusses this and tells you to install the USB 2.0 drivers off your installation/utilities CD, but my CD only contained chipset drivers which didn't seem to solve this.
What did solve it was going and pulling down microsoft updates from support.microsoft.com.
Included in either XP Service Pack 1 or one of the other critical updates I downloaded were the USB 2.0 drivers for XP.
Just install the updates by going to support.microsoft.com, then the downloads link, and selecting windows updates, then restart your computer.
When it boots back up open your device manager, select the "other" usb devices with errors, and try reinstalling the driver and letting windows search for them automatically.
This installed the USB 2.0 driver for me and solved my problem.
In your original post I believe you said you see 2 devices in your "other" devices, so make sure you have installed the chipset drivers off your utility CD, otherwise go to www.intel.com and download them for the 845 chipset.
Hope this helps,
Russ
