USB devices not working properly please reply
I'm having trouble with my USB devices since i re-formatted my computer.
All the USB devices work except 3.
1 is my Epson DX4850 printer. The second is my Samsung Digimax V800 and the third is my Buffalo 250GB External HD.
The problem is, if i have my printer and HD on, and i attempt to turn on the camera while its plugged in, the printer and HD just stop working. If i turn the HD and printer off and on again with the camera still plugged in, Windows says they are unrecognized.
I had this problem with my external HD and MP3 player, but i managed to resolve that by reinstalling the MP3 driver while the external HD was on but unresponsive.
I have also moved the devices in different USB ports but to no avail, i'm pretty sure its a driver/software related problem.
Any advice, its really annoying when i want to print a picture off my camera without having to copy and paste the image and turn the camera off to print.
Please reply.
P.s. When i formatted i installed these in this order: (I have a dell dimension 5000)
1.infinst_autol: Provides Intel Chipset support for Windows
2.R79695
The rest are just graphics card drivers etc. Am i missing a seperate USB driver or something?

You don't need to re-install the USB root again. There is a hirearchy to the USB ports on the rear of your Dell Dimension.I have run across this before and posted many time about this subject.If your USB port stack is configured like this:U EU UU UWhere U=USB port and E=EthernetMake sure your keyboard is NOT next to the E in the two row stack, especially if your mouse is plugged into one of the ports on the keyboard. Place the keyboard in the three row stack, along with the drive. Put the printer in the two row stack. Everything should be fine.

Looking at it it looks like this:U U UE U UWhich is what you have shown just in a diffrent position. I have changed it so it is like this:K M JE D PJ = JoystickK = KeyboardD = DriveP = PrinterE =EthernetM = MouseI connected the camera again with the HD on. I clicked on a movie file on the HD and everything just froze. I clicked end task and when it unfroze, i lost the folder which contained all my media followed by a warning saying that the data has been lost.So no, that didnt work either.If its any use to you i plug the camera in on one of the front USB ports on the computer.Dont know if i mentioned this before but when i try to restart my HD or printer after the camera has done its deed windows says they are both just unknown devices.Please reply.1116

Ive also found out that if i connect my MP3 player to the USB, my camera cannot connect and neither can my printer. They both show up as unknown devices with no drivers. As soon as i disconnect my MP3 player and retart my printer, it will work properly.My camera and printer still cannot function at the same time.1116

Are you sure all those power-hungry devices aren't just trying to draw too much power from the USB ports? Open Device Manager, expand list under USB and go to Properties page for each root hub. Click Power tab to see how much power each device is drawing. The max available power amount should be listed near top of the Power tab for each hub (probably 500 mA). If you're close to the limits, especially with camera and printer connected, you may need to use an externally powered USB hub to feed your devices.Please don't double-post your questions. Post it once in the correct forum

Yes i'm sure. The printer and HD have their own power supply, i am nowhere near the maximum 500mA.I reinstalled my printer driver with the HD on and the HD went on and off and on again during the driver installation, isnt that obvious that its a driver fault somewhere?1116

Look on Dell's Drivers and Download page for this model to make sure you have the latest version of BIOS, and while you're there, check to see if there's an update to Dell's Desktop System Software (DSS) on the download page. Some models don't need DSS, but that's frequently how Dell fixes problems with USB.Ron

Same thing. Camera and MP3 player just stop the printer, HD and eachother from working.
