Variable Speed Case Fan
Hi everyone.
I have a Dell Dimension 2300 with a Celeron 1.7 and a 96mm case fan. The one-year warranty on this machine has expired. I have noticed that instead of a heatsink with a fan for the CPU, this Dell has only a heatsink on the CPU with a shroud leading to a 96mm case fan. Because I rarely use my CPU intensively, cold air is always being thrown out by the (fairly noisy) case fan. I want to upgrade to a variable speed case fan like the PSU in this Dell. The PSU hardly ever comes on, it could be days on end before it switches itself on to throw out a little heat. The PSU is great, but I want the same effect with the case fan. Can anyone who knows about this sort of thing or has done this themselves advise on what I need? I have seen a couple of 80mm case fans with variable speed control via a temperature sensor located on the case fan itself, as opposed to a wire leading to a sensor to be placed between the CPU and heatsink.
Thanks very much,
Niraj.

niraj.patel,
You should try this on the upgrade board for support of this question. It may be a while before you get a good answer here.
