More likely the bad link is an old slow router or your Internet Provider. Consider buying a new Gigabit wireless router. Then position it close to the desktop and use an Ethernet cable instead of the wireless. The 8300 has a built in gigabit ethernet card. The wireless is a separate card and desktops don't usually need to be wireless since they don't move around. You can also skip the router if you have only one computer and directly connect to your broadband modem via an ethernet cable.

In my case it was a matter of getting dual band routers and making sure that I was only using the 5ghz band because where I live I am swamped with 802.11b and 802.11g routers that are on the 2.4ghz band.

i have deduced that the problem is because of either my ethernet card or the wireless card. because my other computers dont face such probs, so its not the router. but how do i know whether the prob lies with the ethernet card or wireless card?
