will not boot into XP
Please help!
I have a 1 week old dimension 5150.
After working OK for a couple of days, the system will not boot into XP.
I have tried f2, f12, ctrl f11 on Dell start-up, even managed to try (without success) safe mode boot-up, all end at the same point of a blank screen.
After going through the Dell screen, and then the XP splash screen, two dialogue boxes appear.
The first is box headed services.exe - bad image, the narrative is "C:\WINDOWS\System32\UxTheme.dll is not a valid windows image". I click "OK" through that then a second error message begins "lsass.exe - bad image, then same narrative as before. I click "OK" then the machine just gives a blank screen with a mouse pointer and will not respond to anything further. The people using the PC last had limited user rights so I can't imagine they messed it up.
All I had done was run all of the windows updates, initiate the virus checker, firewall and some non-contentious software. I had just run the Norton Ghost option, but not tested it.
Without a reinstall disc, I have no idea what to do next and the FAQs all seem to assume you can boot successfully.
Please help! Jonathon

Since your problem is really not a problem with the Dimension - BIOS, I suggest you post in the Software - Windows XP forum, where you are more likely to get an informed response. You will also find hundreds of messages over there explaining how you should get the Windows XP CD so that you can solve problems like this in the future.
