Windows Update causes boot problems

My Dell 9000 would not boot properly the other day. Would freeze on Welcome screen or freeze on black transition screen. Sometimes would boot all the way to desktop but then freeze. Booted to Safe Mode and rolled back to previous day but also noted the latest restore point was for Windows Updates - installed automatically. In fact first freeze was the morning of the update install. Rolled back system restore got things working again but next day found freezing again. The Updates had again installed. To make a long story short, I had to again do a restore to a date preceeding updates, hide the updates, and turn off automatic installation. Things now seem to be OK again but I don't dare allow those updates to install again (they are not security updates but for certain application compatibility). It is one of these two (or both) updates that are, I think,  causing me fits with booting... KB2272691  &/or KB9824110.

Anyone having similar problems or have a fix? Perhaps it is something other than the updates?

Thanks.

You didn't include the version of Windows in your post, but these updates appear to be causing the problem on systems running Win 7  64-bit Ultimate.

See if the instructions posted by Gokul T in that thread help.

Yes, it is Windows 7 Pro that is having the problem with booting. Sorry about omitting that.
