Windows XP 64 bit

I see that support.dell.com now has a BIOS update A06 for Dimension 8400 with P4 630 + and that it provides more 64 bit OS support.

Does anyone know what it is? Im still missing the onboard sound driver for XP64.

Bios flash apparently doesn't have SATA support FYI. Probably doesn't impact other hardware either...what is the "new" 64 bit support in A06? The folks in India don't know.

Download link to the 64 bit of the SATA RAID Accelerator drivers.
Download the floppy version as the top result version applies only if you already installed the OS which I think is not useful if your boot drive is SATA based.

get the soundcard driver by searching for Dell Precision 370 and x64 in the drivers section.

It used to be there.  They have since taken it down.

Do you recall what the X64 audio driver file was named?

I don't remember the Dell file name, but you can find the soundmax 64bit drivers for the 8400 on http://www.planetamd64.com

Well, I don't know if this is any consolation, but the 1815dn has been released with 64 bit drivers. I just went through the 1600n driver install and the printers failed to install.

I then downloaded the 1815dn and I manually added the printer using the 64 bit printer drivers in the 1815dn driver bundle.

The printer test page worked! It is listed as a DELL Laser MFP 1815dn, but it works. I would suspect that if you downloaded the full bundle and did the full bundle for the 1815dn, that all the functions would work with the 1600n. I suspect these two pritners have virtually the same internals.

Let me know how it goes if anyone experiments beyond the printer drivers.
