XPS 8300
My XPS 8300 came with 8GB of Ram. My question is, can I install two additional 4GB sticks to increase the total to 16GB or do I have to install 4 new 4GB?
I'm a professional photographer running several editing programs, three external hard drive with a total of 7TB of storage. If I increase the RAM will it help this machine run faster or is it a processor issue?

If you currently have 2X4, you can add two more 4G modules to go to 16. Doing so will not markedly increase the speed of the system, however - it may somewhat improve things, but don't expect major boost.
The single slowest device in the system, assuming it has a conventional hard drive, is the drive subsystem. Running the operating system and your rendering software from a solid state drive is the single thing you can do that will dramatically boost the system performance.
