XPS420 CableCard Restricted Content
Hello,
I am trying to setup a Dell XPS 420 with two ATI Digital Cable Tuners.
I have have everthing setup and on every channel I get this message:
Restricted Content
Restrictions set by the broadcaster or originator of the content prohibit
playback of the program on this computer.
I have had Cox cable re-pair the cards at least 5 times. Without the
cablecards in, I can get basic stations (1-99). With Cox we tried
multistream and singlestream cards (like 8 of them). Cox also sent like
three different types of hits to the box (an initalize, a hit, and a
refresh).
I have run the Cyberlink advisor and everything is kosher with HDCP. I also
tried an VGA connection as opposed to the DVI connection to my monitor and
no luck.

I have also tried taking a cablecard tuner/cablecard from my brothers working HP setup and got the same Restricted Content message. I dont think the issue is the tuners or the cards, I think its something on the PC.
What else can I try?

John,It almost sounds like the flag in the bios isn't being recognized. Is there anyway that you or Dell can check that. Also, isn't it only possible to output the content over HDMI with HDCP enabled? Just some thoughts from little reading I have been trying to do in this area.- For a digital connection it requires HDCP compliance on the monitor. However, it does still support analog connections such as VGA and Component. I have, however tried both.Also, if the BIOS flag on the motherboard was not set I would receive an error saying my PC is not digital cable ready. I wouldnt be able to get to the point I am. At least thats how I understand it, I may be wrong.UPDATE: I installed Vista SP1 RC and it made no difference.

Cable cards sure seem to be a mess..
Message Edited by Toronto699 on 12-30-2007 08:53 PM- Perhaps I am missing the boat but....How do you decode the pay channels (premium) I can watch all the basic channels with my card alone but not the premium channels, for that I need the set top box and the Cable Co can control what I can tune to and what not depending on the service I pay for.In short, there is a "T" on the cable one cable goes directly to the cable modem, the other cable to the top box and from the top box to the tuner card. Everything is worcable though the remote wich it also controls the top box by using a very small IR transmiter.
