Hi all, first post here.

I recently re-inherited my Inspiron 2600 (that I bought new in 2003) from my ex. He has had it for about a year and has totally funked it up. He had it loaded down with viruses and spyware and misc junk and it wouldn't really work at all anymore. He also had lost the restore disk. He told me he would fix it, so I let him have it again. This time he tried to load Win 98 on it, unsuccessfully, and gave it back to me in that condition. The resolution is horrible and it says its missing all kinds of files, and generally not working correctly.

I contacted Dell customer support and they were very helpful and are sending me a copy of the restore disk with XP on it. I would also like to add more memory, it just has the 128 that it came with. I'm not comfortable opening up the non-user serviceable slot, can I just stick a 512 stick of pc133 in the other slot? Will it just not recognize the other 64 stick then? Or is it more complicated than that? The bios has never been upgraded. Do I have to upgrade to A11 for it to recognize 512 in one slot?
