- Here's the solution.
Control Panel --> Personalization --> Window Color and Appearance --> Adavanced (link) --> Select the "Windows Vista Basic" color theme --> Click OK
The reason this works is because the Intel 965 Express chipset can't handle the performance requirements of the Vista Aero theme. Dell has basically put out a line of laptops with sub-standard video cards that can't handle Vista in "default" video mode and neglected to tell you about this until after you've bought the laptop. I know, I feel ripped off too. At least now you won't have to deal with that annoying error any longer. Cheers. SirZatoichi

Tried it already, but still the problem occurs..though thanks for your reply...I really appreciate it...^_^
- One thing's clear - all this stems from the Intel 965 chipset not being able to handle the stresses of normal graphics-intensive processing when used in combination with Vista. They really should have rethunk that little "Designed for Windows Vista" sticker in this case. All I can suggest to you at this point is to do everything you can to reduce the stress on your GPU. Change to Vista Classic color scheme \and go to Control Panel --> System --> Performance and check the "optimize for performance" button to uncheck all the boxes, which should help a bit more. It may just be that your game won't run under Vista using this GPU. Like I said, Dell should have never issued laptops 'certified' for Vista with this chip. There may be nothing you can do about it except to revert back to XP which generally places less stress on the GPU. I tried! Would have been nice if Dell engineers read this thread too. Their support has really gone downhill. Good luck.

thanks for the info....
i think 1 factor that causes this problem is myvirtual OS, which is windows XP...
it consumes about 25% of my laptops' total memory (correct me if im wrong)
at a fixed amount....
now im thinking of removing my virtual OS...
im going to investigate a little further on this problem...
thanks again.. :D

Just click and drag the window all over the screen - because there are so many little icons on the window (for each of the Vista background options), this causes the video driver to think "too hard" and shut down. This causes the uber annoying "Display driver igfx stopped responding and has succesfully recovered".
What's worse is that this error can crash Vista too in some cases forcing a hard reset. I've scoured Google and the Internet for weeks and haven't found a solution. It sounds like a defect to me although Dell or Intel refuse to admit it. Perhaps it's Vista's fault; I suspect everyone's partially to blame and no one's taking ownership. If someone has a solution, I'd love to hear it. Otherwise I'm throwing this laptop (Dell M1330) in the garbage.
