Bios & Battery
I have an inspiron 3000 -I know it is old, and it does need a small coal pile to keep it running, but it has been loyal to me. A while back whenever I was booting up the time and date would be wrong, I assumed that it was something with the BIOS battery being low. Not a problem, but now I can't even boot up, but I do get the HDD sign, on the small LED under the screen, when I plug the charger into it. I also used to leave it on standby for long periods of time when I was using it. Because of this I assume that it is the BIOS battery that is dead. Can anyone confirm this for me?
Also, I have found something that looks like the battery on, what I assume, is the mother board, it is labeled "DELTA THAO 4D04 9801" (not sure if the 0 in the numbers is a letter or number) I know I am asking a lot, but by any chance does anyone know if this is the battery?

Thanks John, I spent a while looking on various search engines didn't find anything either.
I have now popped what the bit off, and looking at the bottom of it it had a doughnut shaped coil. This just doesn't seem right, even though I am sure I have the motherboard, because there are a couple of big flat blocks with "Intel" on them. Is there something that I am missing here, and this is just a special battery or something?I have a 4000 that keeps its BIOS settings except for the clock. Of course the big notebook battery is totally dead and causes the charge light to blink red but I'm too cheap at this time to get a new one for what is essentially my spare.
From your description of the part you removed, it does not sound like a battery but a power supply shielded coil. It should look something like this.

Thanks again, I think I will have to do more digging, no doubt they have burried the battery in some unreachable part of the box. I hope the laptop can feel my intention to dig around with my screwdriver, and point the way to the battery.
Looks like I'm going to have to re-write the file I was trying to get to now.
All notebooks have a CMOS battery. The 2500 should be the same size/location as the 8000, under the palm rests.
