Black and Blue screen issues

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 running windows Xp.

I just encountered a situation that is as follows.

I was using my laptop just fine and walked away for a moment.

Came back to find a black screen, attempted to restart my laptop only to have the same thing after it restarted happen.

When I tried to do a safe mode I got a Blue screen with the following message.

Stop: C000021a {Fatal System Error} Satus of 0xc000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has been shut down

Can anyone tell me what may have caused this and how to remedy this?

Thanks before hand

Your hard drive has failed - you'll need a new, 2.5" 9.5 mm EIDE (NOT SATA) notebook drive, 120G or smaller to replace it.

Good place to start would be the hard drive diagnostics - F12 at powerup.

Just did a Symptom tree test and got

IDE Disk S/N + WD-WX41A4018345- read test FAILED

    Error code: 0f00-0262

    msg: device initialization failed.

there were other errors associated with this also.

But my drive is brand new lees than 3 weeks old.

Contact your reseller or WD to have it replaced.
