Boot Failure

I have a Latitude CPx J50GT and I cannot get into windows. I get the dell bios welcome screen and after that, just a white underscore blinking, nothing more. What could be the problem?

Hard drive is bad. Boot from Resource CD and run diags or make a boot floppy and run diags. Or boot from a Linspire Live Boot CD.

same scenario with a cpx h500t, the flash took as the dell screen shows v14, my flashing cursor comes as the result of pressing f2 for setup or f12 for boot sequence. if nothing is pressed at prompt screen remains blank after initial dell screen.

Is it possible to boot from 'Linspire Live boot Cd' even if the Hard drive is completely dead?

    How about Knoppix?

    Thanks
