Um, not to sound too dumb ... but if you've configured your system so that closing the lid does nothing, why are you expecting it to do something when the lid closes?

Perhaps the behavior you are experiencing is some other activity that is causing your system to suspend or hibernate?

Umm that's not really what I meant. I want it to do nothing, that's why I set it to Do Nothing, but it takes ages for the screen to resume when you open the screen, which I don't want.

i have the EXACT same "problem"

my guess is that there's nothing we can do about it.

i set the lid option to "do nothing", instead of other options like "hybernate" or "suspend"

it doesn't go to hybernate or suspend, it does do notthing, but that "nothing" is causing 'problem'

when i open the lid again i have to wait like 2-3 seconds for it to "unfreeze" the screen


perfect example:

when playing music. i want to close the lid and carry the laptop around listening to music.

the moment i close the lid, the music freezes for like 2 seconds, but then it would continue playing. and when i open the lid, the music also freezes for like 2 seconds then again continue playing.


what we want to know is that if this is normal, does anyone else have this 'problem'?

Ok, I minsunderstood you ... what you are saying is: You've configured the system to do nothing when the lid is closed, but it's actually doing something.

i get the same thing too when i open the lid again. screen will flash a few times n then n only then can i start usin the system again. when the screen 1st comes on, i can move the mouse pointer abit before it doesnt move again. then i have to wait for the screen to flicker abit n after it finishes with that, can i resume doing what i want to do n henceforth move the mouse pointer

Disable that pain in the neck ATIPOLLER service - it is doing what you describe. On mine, it's so broken sometimes the display never comes back (sigh)

Oh. well if you don't have an ATI video card, then you won't have an ATI poller service :)

I guess the NVida guys do it different; sorry, my 600M is all ATI (which sometimes bluescreens for me just to be nice - not - I can tell cause the bluescreen traces are in ati**.dll or ati**.sys. Love it.. NOT)
