Disabling touchpad
I may just have easily posted this to the Keyboard/Mouse forum, but the latest news I have on the subject points to BIOS.
My problem: I recently purchased a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer. It works fine. No complains. Except... it overrides the Synaptics touchpad properties (ie: START - CONTROL PANEL - MOUSE goes to the Intellimouse's properties). Re-installing the Synaptics driver puts an icon on my tray, but I still can't access the Synaptics properties.
I am a clumsy typist. When typing, the bridge of my hand often scrapes the touchpad, changing the pointer and (often) curser position. My typing 'jumps' up or down a few rows, ruining what I'm trying to input. I want the option to disable the touchpad when I'm using this external mouse.
Lots of running around and asking questions ended with me visiting the troubleshooting FAQ at Synaptics' WEB site. It directed me to enter the BIOS and disable the 'internal mouse'. I have tried to do this (tapping F2 when staring the computer), but do not see an option to disable the 'internal mouse'.
My BIOS is A33, my notebook i5150. Specs are in my signature.
Any help?

Thanks muchly for the reply, but I can't seem to find 'Pointing Device' anywhere in the BIOS.
There are six pages when I call up the BIOS. I've been through them all, several times, and see no option to alter the pointing device (or touchpad, or mouse, etc.). I don't even see it listed.

- i don't know if you can actually disable the touchpad.. but maybe you can try doing it in windows? go to system and under mouse, you should see a ps/2 compatible mouse (intellipoint), try disabling that maybe that will stop the touchpad from working. tell me if it works.

It must not be a feature.
As I said in my original post, my BIOS is A33. Thank you, though, for offering help.

Ethan,
Thanks for the suggestion. It's a no-go, though. I cannot diable the touchpad though either the control panel or Device Manager.

In the BIOS, set the Pointing Device selection to PS Mouse.
