Docking Station question??

I currently have a docking station for my Inspiron 4150. It is model PRX. I just bought a used Latitude CPxJ for my daughter. It fits the docking station, but when I put it in, I get a warning that it does not work with the CPxJ. Is this just a Dell thing? or will it not really work. What happens if I go ahead and ignore the warning, and start up the CPxJ??

NOT A GODD IDEA. That dock is made to only work with Inspiron notebooks.

But if you really feel the need to try it go ahead that model notebook could not of cost that much. Post back what happens.

I think I will leave well  enough alone. With my luck, it would fry my daughters laptop. I bought it for $325. That's a lot of money when you don't have any. It just seems like it ought to work though!

    Hi,

I have seen people damage the dock trying that. The CPxJ was the same Mbd as an I3800. You could load the Bios using a switch and make it an Inspiron.

How do I load the I3800 BIOS using a switch? Would that affect my 4150 dockingat all?

Hey Chris where do you get this /jibal as the switch?? I thought is was /forceit and sometimes you also needed the /forcetype switch.

    Hi,

They are both Inspirons, so that wont change anything. ( after the flash ) The switch is to force the Bios over, as without it it wont go. Get the .exe part of the flash, and boot into Dos:  I3800_a16 /jabil should do the job, a16 is the Bios vserion as an example. Just remember there is a slight risk with any Bios update. Good luck.

                                                                           Regards Chris

PS The syntax should be followed, it may be I3800_a12 or I3800.a12  case should not matter.

    Ed C,

Jabil is the switch I always use. The C600 needs forcetype, and I think forceit was to flash without the AC adapter. I have seen other posts that mention all of them.

                                                                      Regards Chris
