Help!!! New D610 screen is blank
Hope this is the correct forum for this problem. . .
I have a nearly new Latitude D610 that has been running perfectly. However, I've just tried to restart the computer after dinner and I can't get any thing on the screen...it's blank.
The CD drive is the only thing that appears to work. It will eject when I press the eject button. There is also a small green annuciator light in the upper right of the keyboard area (small green circle with a slash through the top of it).
This afternoon I was working on the D610 without it being plugged in. At one point the low-battery warning began flashing and within a minute or two I plugged the power charging unit in and continued working. I noticed that it was charging with an indication of 14% and charging.
After dinner I tried to turn the computer on but the screen remains blank.
Is it possible to lock this computer up somehow or do I have a screen failure?

Ted,
From the top i can hear a faint humming noise over the lower left area of the keyboard (i think that is the hard drive area). From the underside there is clearly a fan working because i find air blowing out of the louvers. The bottom is fairly warm.
The small green annunciator (circle with a slash) that i mentioned (located on the right hinge of the lid) is steady green...it does not flash.
Thanks for your help.

- Thanks for everyone's help on my problem. I solved the problem this afternoon and my notebook is running fine again.Unfortunately, I've developed the bad habit of not reading manuals when in trouble. Out of desperation I finally consulted Dell's manual. In the "Quick Reference Guide" that came with the D610 is a short section on "Solving Problems". It says that if the computer stops responding to "hold the power button for at least 8 to 10 seconds until the computer turns off". I did this and the computer gave out a little squeak and turned off...no fan, light or anything. I then restarted the computer as suggested in the Guide and it booted up normally.
- I believe if the green light is flashing, this indicates that the system has gone into suspend mode. Having a straight green light with the HDD is working and the fans are on but you have no display may indicate a few things. The backlight may have died, so you can't see the image on the screen. It may also be a faulty MB or CPU. If its new and under warranty, I'd contact Dell tech support to have the system repaired.
