inspiron 5749 - modify boot order

hi all,

am trying to change the boot order on my laptop but am having difficulty.

It was easy on old bios' because there was a list with cd, usb, etc... now I can't see them anymore

how can you add a usb device to the boot order?

thanks

It must have an OS that supports GPT boot and it must be manually added to the boot list.  Be careful booting ANYTHING that's not current -- there are plenty of utilities that do not support secure boot/UEFI and will damage the UEFI/GPT partition structure if used.

Exactly what are you trying to boot from (OS and version)?

In order to make the default Acronis true image recovery media work, you'll need to turn off secure boot and enable legacy boot.  Once that's done you can boot from the Acronis media, image (or recover) and return the settings to what they were.

If you want to make a bootable drive under UEFI, you'll need to prepare a Windows boot flash drive and use the Acronis plug-ins to install Acronis under it.  Acronis has directions for doing that either in the manual or on their tech site.
