Sure. It's an Inspiron 8000, and I'm using Windows 2000 with SP4.

By the way, I notice that only interrupts 3, 4, 7, 9 and 15 are listed, and Device Manager says they are either not available or my new card will cause a conflict.

Yes, I have several different cards but none of them physically in the machine. By the way, I should have said a "wireless PCMCIA card.

The card in question had been qorking fine until I tried to install it after reformatting my hard drive.

When I run HP diagnostics and look at the info on the wireless card, it says "Two devices have been assigned to the same I/O ports, the same interrupt or the same [unreadable] DMA channel, either by the BIOS, the operation system or a combination of the two." Unfortunately, there's no information on what the other device is. I've gone through the whole list of devices and can't find anything. If I uninstall the card in question and install another one, I get the same message--so it looks like there's something somewhere else on the machine. Any idea what it could be or what I should do next?

Windows 2000 is usually very good at sharing its IRQs. By any chance have you got a PCMCIA card also installed?

Do you see any error messages or exclamation marks in device manager?

Yes,there a yellow exclamation mark. When I click on Properties, the box says "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use the device, you will have to disable one of the other devices on the system." But I can't find which one.

Well, I seem to have solved the problem thanks to a long session on the phone with a Dell tech support person. After trying all kinds of things, mostly uninstalling and reinstalling the card, he told me to delete the PCI bus. This worked! When the computer started up, it reinstalled various items, assigning them new IRQs. If anyone else has to do this, be sure to have your original disks handy--I had to reinstall the sound and video cards.
