MEMORY

I have an inspiron 6000 w/512 megs of ram. I want to upgrade the ram, when I looked at the listings at dell.com it seemed to say that I would have to purchase two 1 gig mem. chips, that they must be in pairs of equal value. Is this the case or can I install one?

You can definitely use Dimm A with just one module, for example a 1 Gb module. But putting your remaing 512mB module in Dimm B to get 1.5 gig should be fine. Heck, why not try it out, you can always purchase another 1Gb module later-on.

Incorrect.  Using unmatches sticks disables dual channeling, resulting in a performance hit of up to 30%.
