Missing RAM - Inspiron 1501

I had one of my good friends buy an Inspiron 1501 from Dell. It came in today,It's Brand Spanking New, , well not true, I had to pick it up at the post office, puralator doesn't deliver to my door where I live, And I don't live on Mars puralator is just another useless canada post service, but hey Dell doesn't seem to care. Now I'm my friend tech buddie, I've been playin with Pc's for the last 10 years, so I'm not a newbie... First thing I did was to run dxdiag to verify that she got what she paid for... And in the ram dep't I should be reading 1024mb of ram or something very close to that... I'm reading 894... So I went in the Bios and the extended memory should have been 1024Mb or 1024000kb but it only shows 915456kb so I'm missing 108544kb of ram or 108mb of RAM. The tech person I talked to wants me to believe that what I'm reading is normal and I know It's not... can anybody here confirm that i'm not daft... JJ

I'm sure what you're seeing is normal.  Check the specs in the owner's manual found here:

You will see that this machine has an on-board video adapter that can share up to 128 MB of system memory.

I think Jack is right - its probably the video card grabbing some of the System memory.
