monitor turnoff when i close lid???

help please someone. notice some ppl asking this same question as well....

i have an inspiron 2200 - whenever i closed my lid, the monitor would turn off and come on when i reopen the lid. however yesterday, i closed the lid and it did not turn off. what's wrong??...i have made no changes that could make it happen......i'm at a loss.

please help me

    Normaly, when you turn off your computer you need to wait so realy turn off, bcuz if you close your lid, automaticly goes to stand by, but no worry  you can change this options going to, Start---control panel-----Power optiuons, and there you can wharever you wanna do wiht the poer of you computer...... go to advanced  tu see your option

    u misunderstand me.
    its not when im shutting down. i meant when the computer is just normally on....downloading or whatever. whenever i closed the lid the monitor would turn off (i changed it from going to standby when i close the lid)
    now it has all of a sudden stopped turning off. i close the lid and it remains on.

    p.s. there is no setting for that in power options.
