This is a 17R SE (non 3D model) that shipped with Win 7 and Dell BIOS A16

The laptop also shipped with Nvidia Graphics Driver ver 296.37, I updated to ver 311.0 and then updated to ver 327.23. The problem is present with all 3 driver versions.

I telephoned Dell Support and was told I was speaking to a "supervisor". I explained the problem and asked if he would remote access my laptop so I could show him the problem. The supervisor said there was no reason to remote access. He said the problem was due to the fact that I had the  non 3D version laptop. I told the supervisor I know that Dell did market a 3D version of the 17R SE, but I don't believe that is the problem. He insisted it is the problem.

By the way, I own an old working Dell VOSTRO 400 Desktop that was shipped with a Nvidia GeForce 8300GS graphics card running Win 7.

The Nvidia Control Panel on the VOSTRO 400 has the identical spinning green graphic and it spins away with no problems.

So much for Dell Support...
