Hi dmna,
You can disable the hybrid sleep by following the steps below:
Open up the power options setting from the control panel and select the “Change plan settings” link below the selected power plan.
Once in the resulting dialog, choose “Change advanced power settings”. Now you need to scroll down to “Sleep” node. Expand this, and then the “Allow hybrid sleep” node below it. You should see two options, “On battery” and “Plugged in”. Set both of these to “Off”.
Once this is done, click “OK” to save changes and restart your computer.
If the issue still persists, you can update the system BIOS.
Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.
Link to download BIOS: http://dell.to/Y78gQh
Steps to download BIOS:
- Click on “Download File”.
- Select “For Single File Download via Browser”.
- Click on “Download Now”.
- Save the BIOS on your desktop.
- Once the BIOS is downloaded on the desktop, right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
- Follow the prompts on screen and restart your computer.
Please share the findings.
Allow hybrid sleep options were already set to Off....so i updated the BIOS from the above link....it installed and restarted for changes to occur and when i checked through msinfo32, the BIOS version/Date says Dell Inc. A05, 8/3/12 . So im not sure if the BIOS really did update or the version info doesnt have to do anything with the update, Then i shut it down but the problem still persists..

Hi dmna,
You can try using your computer in safe mode by following the steps below and see if the issue still perists:
- Restart the computer.
- Tap the F8 key on the keyboard during the boot process until you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen.
- Select “Safe Mode with Networking” from the menu using the arrow keys on the keyboard and then press the key.
- Select the user account at the log in screen.
- Check if the issue still persists.
Another step you can try is to create a new user account and see if the same issue persists there. For more information on creating a user account, you can refer to link: http://bit.ly/TwGsCG
If the issue still persists, you can restore your computer to default factory settings. PC restore will lead to data (pictures, documents, programs, music) loss. Please perform a data backup prior to this step. Please disconnect any external peripherals (printer, scanner or any USB device) as well. For more information on PC restore, you can refer to article: http://dell.to/U95WH9.
Please reply for further clarifications.

Hi dmna,
You can create a back of all the data on computer that you need and then can restore the computer to default factory settings. It will be helpful in isolating the issue with the Operating system or system hardware.

Hi Dhimna,
Please share the system model with which you are facing issues.
It appears to be an issue with power button of the computer as well. You can try using your computer in 'Safe mode' and see if it exhibits the same behavior. You can follow the steps below to check system in safe mode:
If the issue still persists, you can change the advance power button options to shut down by following the steps below:
Go to the start menu and click on 'Control Panel' now select the 'Power Option'. After this select the 'Change Plan Settings'
Now another window would appear. Select the option 'Change Advance Power Setting'
Now a small window pops up and scroll down to find the option 'Power Button and Lid' and click on
+sign to expand it. Now you will see the option 'Power button action' and click the+to expand it.Change it to 'Shut Down' -- > Click OK to save changes. Similarly change the 'Sleep' settings to 'Never'. Save changes and restart computer.
Please share the findings.
