Startup

my startup is extremely slow after installing sp2 on my inspiron 1150 laptop. It takes like 12-15 mins everytime, my username stays frozen for a long time after I enter my password. Does anyone know why this is, its only the startup, after that my laptop runs at normal speed?

Also, can someone post a link on reinstalling cd/dvd software. Thanks.

Windows up to date on critical patches? Antivirus and firewall software up to date and running in real time at all times? Have you swept the system for spyware?

    Yeah

It's SP2. Try removing it and see what happens.

SP2 was very slow as well on my machine.  What I did to fix it is run the WinXP SP2 update then run any additional updates after that.  I also cleared out my startup tab in 'msconfig' ... anything and everything in that tab *can* be unchecked cause in XP all the system drivers and information is in the one tab over to the left.  That made a tremendous amount of difference in my speed and memory useage that XP.  Overall SP2 was a very important update that I strongly recommend you have.
