Strange Battery Problem !!!

Hi
Inspiron 8100 has a very strange battery problem. With the battery connected the notebook will not boot. Remove the battery and run straight off the ac power, boots and runs with no problems. Insert the battery whilst still running and the notebook freezes solid. Remove battery, notebook still frozen solid ! Have tried 3 different batteries with same reult. Swap battery into media bay and notebook goes a bit crazy with mouse pointer doing around 200mph but not freezing. Have swapped the dc board out (though not known if a good one) for another and problem still persists. Any ideas anybody? Other than that machine works 100%.

cheers

The battery could be dead, if it's an original; they last 300-500 cycles or about 2 years.

The other alternative is that the DC battery board needs to be reseated or replaced.

Well I fitted a new DC charger board but it has made no difference. Any other ideas what it could be? Find it hard to believe that it's the motherboard cos the machine runs perfect in every other respect. Odd I know !
