USB/Ethernet port replacement

Inspiron 8500

I need to replace my worn out busted up ports in the back. Is this an easy replacement or is it part of a bigger more expensive part? Any help on where this part is listed. I've searched but can't find.

Also need to replace my ethernet (I think that's what it's called) cable port as well, same question as above, as in do I need to replace the whole card or just the plug jack?

Thanks.

Did you mean the Mother Board, or what's an md? Both of these are connected to the same board? I thought that the internet card would at least stand alone.

$500, are you serious? :mansad: Oh man, thanks for the help.

yes, motherboard is what they meant. check ebay. i got a motherboard for my i4000 for $10 plus $10 shipping. sure, you're kinda taking your chances with something like this on ebay, but i figure as long as you buy from someone with over 1000 positive feedback, use paypal, and make sure you're getting the right part (check under the memory sticks for your board's p/n), then it's not a big deal. $20 sure beats the heck out of $500!

just make sure the p/n matches... sometimes there's different revisions and thus diff p/n's for the same "model" laptop... there were 3 versions of insp4000 boards i could have chosen from, but only one of them would have worked with my existing cpu and video. you'll also want to flash to the latest bios on the new board once you get it installed.

Thanks a bunch guys. Turns out that I chatted with a tech and being that they were just worn out from normal use (as in my house is a circus with kids everywhere so things tend to wear out more than normal lol) that it could be replaced under my extended warranty. And they are sending a tech out tomorrow to replace the motherboard at my house. Way cool. So that extended warranty paid off and I think I'll be buying another Dell in the near future.

    Thanks again.
