2408WFP, A02?

Can we expect to see a REV A02 soon for the 2408WFP monitor? I`ve been thinking of buying this monitor for a while now but it seems that not everybody is satisfied with this current firmware (REV A01) so i`m curious if a new one is in the works maybe, anyone know?

Peter.

From what I gather they seem to be on A02 right now (got my monitor a few days ago).  The back of my monitor says A01,  but using the program softMCCS it is identified as DELA02A.  Maybe I'm reading in to it wrong, or Dell has not gotten around to printing some up-to-date stickers, who knows.

Anyways, assuming i do have an A02, I can tell you it doesn't seem to like my set up of Vista Home Premium 64bit and a Geforce 260 as the color alignment is noticibly off as I get some off-set color borders around my text.

Other than that one issue, the monitor is quite nice. Despite the misalignment the images look cleaner/sharper than my older 2405WFP, which I have set up side by side, and the colors in general look brighter and more vibrant even after turning down my brightness.  I haven`t tried to play any first person shooters yet, so I can`t comment on response lag if that matters to you.

But, i`m not sure how you would go about getting an official response. I think I got lucky and got 1 respons the day after i reported my issue, but nothing since.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Ok, sounds good Hal:emotion-1:

Are you satisfied with your 2408 purchase so far then, any other problems you have noticed other than the color alignment issue?

I would like to have this confirmed somehow though by Dell themself if they indeed are working on a new firmware (A02) Is there anyway to contact them regarding this to have this confirmed?

    Peter.

I spoke to someone at Dell UK today about a problem I have with my 2408 which needs to be replaced. I took the opportunity to ask if it was likely to be replaced by one of the 'new' Rev A02 models. He wasn't aware of a Rev A02 model and said it was unlikely to happen because the model has been superceded by the 2409. However, he also said the 2408 may well stay in production as long as there is a demand for it, so maybe they've just done a new version but are keeping quiet about it.

Ok, thanks för sharing this information with us Fred.

I`m not sure what to do here, i really need a monitor and this is the one i`ve had my eyes on for a long time now but apparently there are still some issues (input lag, color alignment) with the latest A01 firmware according to some users of this monitor. It`s kind of strange because i`ve also read several reviews saying these problems have dissapeared completely so i`m a little confused here.

Overall, i do believe most customers buying this monitor with the A01 REV are satisfied with it so the upgrade from A00 to A01 must have been a real improvement.

For what it's worth, I have the A00 version (purchased just before they started shipping the A01).  I've had no problems with it--love it.

    I ordered a 2408WFP May 8, and received it today May 12, 2009. It is Rev. A02.

I've just received my Ultrasharp 2408 and it's a Rev. A02. I'm in Thailand and the screen comes from Malaysia but seems it was produced in China. Haven't had time to test it yet. Anyone knows what Rev A02 improvements are ? A Dell's Rep. response would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks

The only difference in A01 and A02 were some HDMI audio tweaks.

    @ DELL-Chris M:

Thank you for the information regarding Rev A02. Is that really the only improvement ? If it is, why releasing a firmware update just for that ?

I have also seen through many forums (this one included) that there is a problem regarding some "red halo" around letters on white background. I can indeed confirm this with the newly 2408 I just bought and it's really nasty. Is it a known defect ? A default setting to be changed? Should I return it to Dell ? Something I can do ? Could you please advise...?

FYI, I hooked up the 2408 with a PowerBook G4 (ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 card) with an HDMI cable.

Thank you very much for the information you can provide.
