Hi all. I'm considering switching from a crt to an lcd monitor. Been looking at the 2001FP. Would appreciate opinions as to reliabilty/performance. I don't play any games, so that's not a consideraion. I'll be using it strictly for image editing/graphics, such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, ProShow Gold, etc. I'm currently using a 3 year old 21" Dell Trinitron.
My system specs are:
Dimension 8400, bought about 2 months ago.
P4 3.0g w/HT
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
ATI Radeon X300 SE
Also, can I use this setup with 2 monitors, using the 2001FP on the digital output, and the Trinitron on the analog output? I'm currently using the Trinitron as my main monitor, with a Dell 17" crt as a second, with my desktop set to expanded mode. Great for apps like Photoshop, Paint Shop pro, etc.
Thanks!
Jack

Spend your money on a different brand. The monitor is a great piece of hardware. But if you check the forum there are people having issues with them. Dell has no answer for the problems, and still sells them. Main issue would be the "dvi power save mode"
I am on my third monitor and will more than likely be sending everything back and closing my account with dell. My current monitor is perfect except for that issue. Since I didn't even knwo there was an issue with it I didn't run to dell to replace it. Now that I have found an issue dell's policy is to send you a refurbished monitor. Pretty much a never ending circle.
For this kind of money go with a brand that will allow a brand new replacement to be issued. Plain and simple no customer in their right mind would take a refurbished product at normal cost. Seeing how refurbs are sold at a lower price....
Although there have been numerous reported issues with the latest video cards (unsure whether they are PCIe or AGP) using DVI and the Dell LCD, you shouldn't have any problems with the earlier boards, or cards. I have had no such problems with my setup and the 2001FP is a great value (under $700 often on sale). My system is a a P4/3.2/ with AGP, Radeon 9800 Pro, running DVI. After several months now, zero dead pixels, and display/image is beautiful . I would have no problem recommending it.
I have had mine about 6 months, using albatron 5700q 256mb graphics card with it. Very nice monitor but can't get it to view dvd's correctly in dvi 1600x1200 (everything else ok in that mode). I see very little difference in quality between dvi and vga in any event. I recommend monitor but make sure your graphics card will be ok with it.
My Radeon X700 is a touch finicky with the DVI on the 2001FP, but once the card has been warmed up the problems go away. There are settings to reduce the DVI frequency which seem to have solved the issue.
Had no problem at all with a 6600GT, although I've fried like 3 out of 6600GT's that I've tried.
The analog port is *amazing* on the 2001FP. You can barely tell that it's not DVI. I really wanted to get a dual DVI video card (XFX 6600GT) but in leu of all the dead cards, I'm now using a analog/DVI Radeon x700, and even side by side, it's hard to tell any defficiencies in the analog picture. This certainly was not the case with my old flat panel, where there were stark differences in analog vs. DVI quality.
The only minor quibble with the picture quality is that there is a faint vibrating crosshatch pattern on darker colors, until the monitors have warmed up fully.
