Any performance tuning tips for Sun T2000 Storage Node, Networker 7.5.3?
Hi,
We currently use a domain of an E4900 for one of our Storage Nodes. This is running Solaris 9 and connected to an IBM TS3200 library with 2 x LTO5 drives via fibre channel. We are looking to move the Storage Node off the E4900 and onto an 8-core T2000. I have both servers setup on the same library via Dynamic Drive Sharing. Gave it a quick test yesterday and all looked fine so I changed all the clients to use the T2000 as the SN. Looked this morning and its doing less than 10MB/s to each drive. I killed the backups, moved the clients back to the E4900 and that is writing at 30-40MB/s.
So, any tips on tuning or ideas why the T2000 is so slow?

I drive LTO4 drives from a 1.0Ghz 6 cores T1000 (Solaris 10). If I can feed the server fast enough (it is limited by the GigE connection), it can write at over 80MBps to a single drive. This stream will cause the driving nsrmmd to consume 4.17% CPU which is a complete thread (the T1000 has 24 logical CPUs), although I have seen times in which nsrmmd is using less CPU which means it might be able to drive an LTO5 drive at native speed (no compression). 10MBps means you are having some problems.
Can you describe your system in greater detail ?

I'd recommend consulting the Performance Optimisation Guide which has details on where the most likely potential bottlenecks are and what tests you can run to identify what could be causing this slowness.

Finally had a chance to do some checking on this server. It turns out the issue was related to the network port in the switch. It was only connecting at 100MB.
We switched it another port, got a gigabit connection and started getting decent throughput.

Do you have any jobs queueing at all? If you disable one drive do you then get 20MB/s going to that?
