Got Granular backup of the AD you will need to use NetWorker Module for Microsoft application. If you provide more details on your set up we might be able to provide you better suggestions.

So, we have two Virtual Domain controllers

Both have NMM is installed.

Both have job configured to do granular backup

I'm using Networker 18.2 (NVE)

We also have configured VMware integration configured.

So, we have enabled DC to backup as normal VM. I know this is very bad practice.

How do i protect my domain controllers?

The usual proactive is to just replicate the AD to the DC because it is much easier and faster compared to restoring the OS+system state. But you could also do a complete backup of the system using an agent based backup.

By using "dc=local,dc=domainname" means that you are backing up the complete domain. I assume what you are actual asking is that if you can still do a granular recovery with the saveset being defined as the complete domain, then. Yes, you will be able to restore a single supported object even though you have backed up the complete domain.

Sorry then I did not clarify myself well.

I have two requirements

1. Backup domain controller so that I can restore objects and

2. in worst case do the DR recovery of the DC.

Since I have not select all in save set, i can only restore objects. So should I create another job with "ALL"

So, you need 2 instances one to be back your AD objects using NMM and the other for the complete FS backup.
