Either the drive needs initialization (use nsrmm command), or the drive was re-ordered, or the drive is physically malfunctioned.

This is most likely down to a tape not being taken from the tape drive and replaced in the slot for some reason. The tape will have been released from the drive but the drive is most likely still reporting a tape presence.
If it’s a jukebox you can clear this by using the GUI interface and moving the tape back to a slot. Otherwise you can use sji commands to do this also.
You may also have to enable the drive if it has been put into service/disabled mode.
If NetWorker does not think there is a tape in the drive you can then go onto do a mount, if it does think there is a tape mounted easiest way to correct this is to disable/enable the jukebox. If it’s a stand alone drive do a reset.
Once you have cleared this you should be able to mount a volume successfully, however you have probably ensure a write is done (either label a tape or a backup started to the volume) to clear the error count back down to 0.
