tapes become full with very little data in it

Hi,

This morning one of hp tape drive was in service mode so i have reset and inventoried the library.  I dont know if that casued the issue but one of my tape (index) becomes full.

I get these errors:

"Device/media error: read open error: command completed successfully (drive status is DRIVE_STATUS_
CLEANING_TAPE_IN)"

Waiting for writable volumes.

Thanks,

sanar

    Hi Sanar,

    Try this...

    Error: 'DRIVE_STATUS_CLEANING_TAPE_IN'
    esg71448

    Fact: NetWorker

    Symptom: Error: 'DRIVE_STATUS_CLEANING TAPE_IN'

    Symptom: Unable to mount volumes

Cause: Cleaning tape was in incorrect slot and was being loaded by NetWorker as a regular volume

Cause: Tapes moved outside of NetWorker's visibility (sjimm, jukebox functions)

Fix: Shutdown NetWorker, clear /tmp files, restart NetWorker

    nsrjb -HE

    nsrjb -I

Cleaning slot is filled with cleaning tape again and mounts working again

Just adding to the above point, you have mentioned the tapes are getting full as well. Normally Networker marks tapes full when there is an issue with the drive or tape. This is an expected behaviour to prevent data being written to the faulty drive/tape. In that case you need to contact your hardware vendor and check the drives.

    Hi Sanar,

Read open error occurs when there is a drive re-ordering issue. Try running inquire and sjisn and see if there is any serial number mismatch. If so you may re-configure the library.

Do full inventory of your library using nsrjb -HEv, then clean this drive.

    Hi,

nsrjb -HEv will do soft reset for the library. First you need to find what exactly is wrong with the library (hardware or configuration). Once the issue is fixed you can change the full tape to appendable.

See on daemon.raw if exists an I/O error and operating system logs, verify hba firmware and drivers are updated, perform drive cleaning to ensure drive head performance. After reset the library nsrjb -HEv
