Traditional NDMP save sets recovery using a storage node

Hello,

I have some NDMP save sets, backed up in a "traditional" way - a tape drive attached directly to the NAS device. Is it possible to recover these save sets using an NDMP DSA recovery from the tape attached to the backup server itself, or the cartridge must be loaded into a drive directly attached to a NAS device? The backup server is NetWorker 7.2.2.
Thank you very much.

Logic says no and here is why. When ndmp data is written to tape by filer it is written by ndmpd daemon and not nsrmmd. nsrmmd probably does not understand dump, tar or vbb (actually I'm sure that it does not). dsa is not using any of these I believe and if that assumption is correct then it can't read neither ndmpd written data. At least that would what I would think. To have correct answer you will need to either test it yourself or speak to your support.
