I am getting ready to install (2) replacement 3024's. The firmware has never been updated on the prior 3024's, and as I am installing replacements, want to upgrade to the latest and greatest.
I would like to hear from you guys about the TFTP programs you use....What are your likes and dislikes, etc. so I can make an informed decision, without relying on "Sales Pitches"
The TFTP server we typically use and recommend is provided by Solarwinds. It is a free software download (after a very short registration) and is very easy to use.
Also, if you are updating from the 5.x firmware, I would suggest stepping up to 6.0.4 before updating to the latest 6.x revision. Updating the firmware to 6.x sometimes causes corruption in the 5.x configuration file. This can cause unpredictable (and often undesirable) issues. I would suggest resetting the default configuration after updating to the latest 6.x firmware and re-configuring the switch.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe that is the original filename for the limited deployment 6.1.5 firmware. This revision resolves some specific loss of connectivity and loss of management issues. We have many customers using this firmware and it has shown to be very stable. Unfortunately, it has not yet been released to the web so the only way to acquire it is directly from support.
(I say original filename because I renamed my copy of the file to RDUx_615.fir for ease of identification)
I downloaded TFTP Server from solarwinds, installed on server...
I copied and extracted both firmware updates to \TFTP-Root\
I consoled into POWERCONNECT 3024, Sys Manager, Firmware, changed to "NET", put in the IP for the server, then the path of the file (h:\TFTP-Root\rdux_604.fir
I reset, and the Powerconnect cannot boot from net, claims the file does not exist.
The switch uses a relative path to the file not an absolute path. When you configure the path/filename on the switch, you specify the filename relative to the root of the TFTP server. If the file is in the root of the server (default is TFTP-Root), then you would specify only the filename RDUx_604.fir (this is case-sensitive) in the path/filename section of the Firmware Upgrade page.

You can download it from http://solarwinds.net/
