Connection Drops?

I just got my 5150 replaced under warranty with a brand new 5160. Both had a wireless card, factory installed, of course! With my new computer, when I am on wireless connection in my house (same router and internet and everything), I keep losing the connection. I know its no the range or signal, becuase it happens when I work right next the router. There are times when i can keep my connection for hours, and times when it drops almost instantly. I have downloaded the newest drivers for my card, and have upgraded the firmware on the router also. What else could this be?

Do you or a neighbor (above/below/next door to you) have a 2.4 GHz cordless phone? The cordless phones can interfere. Try changing the channel on your router/AP.

I have the same problem with my Inspiron 8600 an intel pro 2200bg. I thhink, that it starts with the new driver from intel and/or XP SP2... maybe... i often change the location where i work and everywhere i have the same sh... i hope, its only a software-problem and it will be fixed with the the next patch - hopefully...

I changed the channel on my router and it seems to be working. I may still have a drop but I haven't yet in the past 4 hours...

thats what i should try, because all ap's are on channel 11... i did the following thing and since that i didn't have a drop (about 2 hours): i uninstalled mcafee av+firewall and some antispy. now i use anitvir personal edition (additional its pretty faster) and only spybot. ok, that have not really much to do with the network, but if it works - it doesn't matter... smarto, please let me know, if your solution works well further... thanks!
