firewall

I have to turn my firewall off to access my e-mails and the web.  I have uninstalled my Norton 2004 Internet Security and reinstalled it but it made no difference. I have only had this problem for the past week -10 days.

I don't run that particular program but I do remember somehing about a similarity to Zone Alarm in that you must allow you local machine to be inlcuded in the safe zone in order to connect.  I also noticed some updates to Norton this past week and maybe one of those chnaged a default setting.

Hopefully one of the others can help on this one.

If you are using MSN as your mail server the problem is being caused by the PRIVACY setting on the Norton's firewall.  Is it only affecting your outgoing mail or is it affecting traffic in both directions.  This will happen when you are using the Secure Socket Layer selection on the email setup.

I had a similar problem when I was trying to set up an account on Sympatico.ca
