Help transfering with network

I am trying to transfer files and folders from my old dimension pc to this new xps with a network but for some reason, the xps does not give me an option to use a network as the old computer "dimension 4550" does in the files transfer wizard.  I have all the computers in my home networked thru a router and I cant continue with the transfer because as I have said, the xps file transfer wizard does not give me the option to use a network connection.

What I dont understand is the file transfer wizard disk I made was made with the xps.  Beats me, I am stuck and in need of some help.

ttiger8626, if the old computer has the option, then just 'push' it from the dimension to the XPS machine. I had to do a similar thing when I purchased my e510. I could see my old winME machine, but could not connect to it. However, the old machine could connect to the 510, so I just pushed all the data I needed. I know this doesn't 'fix' the wizard problem with your XPS, but at least you'll have your files.

If both systems include Ethernet (I assume they do) are you able simply to use a cross-over Ethernet cable to connect the two systems and does it then recognize?

well, i cant get the two pcs close enough to crossover.  the old pc is in my sons room a dimension 4550 and the new pc "xps" is here but about 80 foot distance apart.  I have them networked thru the ethernet with a broadband router and the disk made with my xps gives the old pc a option of using the network but my xps wont give me that option.  Ive also tried connecting thru ports but it wont connect and transfer that way either.

I have a cross-over that is 100 ft in length.
So, you have at least two options:
    1) Move one of the computers for the duration of the transfer so that the systems are next to each other
    2) Buy (or borrow) that long Ethernet cross-over which will reach.
