Lost my Intel Proset Wireless

Besides having tons of 'puter problems between my two Dells (Dim4100 PC & Inspiron E1705 laptop), I've had lots of network problems.  Bottom line for here is that I inadvertently 'uninstalled' my Intel Proset Wireless.  Everything sees it there, but I don't have the links into the Intel software to use it.  It is no longer listed in my "Add/Remove Programs".

I'm sure it's GOT to still be in there somewhere, but a search didn't produce anything obvious.

How can I recover from this/reinstall Proset??

thanks.

Since ProSet gets installed iwith the driver installation file, you should be able to get it back by reinstalling the drivers.  You don't say which wireless adapter you have, so I can't provide more details.

    Steve,

First, thanks for the quick reply.

The adapter (if I have it correctly) is "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection" (as found under Device Manager).

Okay...  I tried to update the driver and was told there were nothing newer available.  Then I uninstalled the adapter (the only way I know to be able to reinstall the driver), and the adapter disappeared from Device Manager.  Then rebooted.  Adapter is back, apparently with driver installed, but there still is no icon for this on the task bar as it once was, and no link on the start menu.

??  I must be missing something.  Keep in mind, I'm one of those people who know just enough about computers to be dangerous (I'm considered the 'go-to' guy at work...  haha).  I think I tend to overuse my home computers, and in doing so bring out the expectable worst of Microsoft software.

    Now what?

    TIA,
    Carl

Try the following.  Go to the following site and download the latest driver package for your version of Windows (you didn't say which version you are running) and for your wireless card (under Network).

Reboot the 1705 into Safe Mode, then go into Device Manager, expand the listing for Network Adapters, select your wireless adapter and uninstall it.   Reboot to Normal Mode, cancel the New Hardware Wizard, if it starts, then run the file you downloaded to reinstall the drivers and the utility.
